Apparently he hid behin a wall in a cabin while it was being searched by police. Even the police are getting fired over this sinking-the Suncheon police chief was fired over how he handled the search.

I fully expect that more then one person will be executed by the time this all ends.

Re: Korean Ferry Sinks
From the BBC:
Prosecutors asked for death sentence for Captain, three crew members to be sentenced to life in imprisonment. They also recommended terms of between 15-30 years for the other 11 crew members who were tried on lesser charges. The court is expected to deliver its verdict and sentences for all 15 crew members in November.
A separate trial is ongoing for employees of the company that operated the ferry, Chonghaejin Marine Co.
HAs there even been an accident report released for this accident? I am astounded how fast this is all happening.

Meanwhile the Korean CG has been voted to be dismantled. "MPs also voted on Friday to dismantle the National Emergency Management Agency. Both bodies will now be brought into a new safety agency tasked with establishing a comprehensive disaster response system."

So who converted the ship?

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-29910775Prosecutors said the company ignored safety warnings and allowed the ship, which had been illegally redesigned, to be overloaded.
South Korean news agency Yonhap said on Wednesday that the elder Yoo's 44-year-old son Dae-kyun had been sentenced to three years in prison.
He was convicted of taking 7.4bn won (£4.3m; $6.8m) from Chonghaejin and six other affiliates from 2002 to 2013. The judge said he had "abused his status" as Yoo's son.
Two of Yoo's brothers, Byung-ill and Byung-ho, were also found guilty of similar charges and given prison terms of one and two years respectively.
So who converted the ship?
