The operation to refloat the passenger ferry ‘Sewol’ which sunk in 2014 has begun in South Korea.

Nine people are still recorded as missing following the disaster that killed 304 people.

The Shanghai Salvage Company is heading the salvage operation. The project, which was announced last year, is expected to cost around US$73 million.

The hardest part of the operation will be to raise the hull of the ship without it breaking up officials told the BBC.

If all goes well the vessel could be raised by the end of July.
