Apparently in Australia its $152,000 or A$200,000. They were generous and gave his family A$20,000
So, here we have a company (Inco ship management) convicted of providing inadequate training, instruction, supervision, and information which leads to the death of a mechanic. His family gets a pittance and deprived of his income the rest of his working life.
Seriously?
So what's a mans life worth?

A young lad was killed in an auto body shop in Dartmouth a few years ago. The company was found to be 100% at fault. Their penalty? $20,000. That's the price of a young man's life in Nova Scotia, just the cost of doing business. The Labour Standards Act here is a joke, even the standard working week is 48 hours!

Its makes me so sad to think of the human tragedy workplace accidents leave behind - hitting the whole family hard. A neighbor of mine just had a serious accident the other day, and their life is not upside down, but they are thinking about some major impacts to their life, especially in the near future.
