another crew member dies in boat drills

Post by JK »

Honest to God, you think the manufacturers, shipping companies, class would get a handle on this.

Does anyone even know how many die, never mind injured?? This is a NCL new ship, not a 30 year old rustbucket.

Four crew members of the Norwegian Breakaway have been injured in an accident during a rescue boat drill in Bermuda.

The accident occurred Wednesday as the cruise ship was docked at the Heritage Wharf at the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Norwegian Cruise Lines has confirmed to gCaptain that one of the injured crew members has died.

The crew was taking part in a routine drill when the rescue boat fell and was left hanging by a wire, resulting in four crew members falling into the water, according to the Royal Gazette.

I believe it's in SOLAS. That doesn't apply to you guys though. :)

It's crazy that our rescue/lifesaving equipment is to dangerous to use, at drills and exercise, as intended in a real emergency.

Right JJ! You can sit there and scoff that these guys were hurt when they didn't need to be. When it's almost 300 pax in one of those class exempt lifeboats and a wire breaks it will be a disaster. Because then it's civvies and not some seaman.

I'm not even going to comment on your crack about SOLAS as we both know the ships were never built to SOLAS in the first place 30-50 years ago.
