Note that the cradle is chained to the hull.

Just wondering if this one will make it to it's home port without breaking down. Maybe they should use more expensive "wine"...

That's why the cradle is left attached to the hull.

The ship was built in Wisconsin means that the ship has to go down through the 15 locks of the St. Lawrence Seaway. So the cradle could double as underwater fendering to protect the boat from damage bouncing off the lock walls

Maybe you could rig nets of the cradle to act as an anti Torpedo defence, like they did in WW1?
