Penlee Lifeboat Disaster

Post by JK »

Penlee lifeboat, the Solomon Browne and the Union Star crew were lost off the coast of Cornwall in England 37 years ago.
The Union Star was a brand new ship who had lost power due to water contamination of the fuel. The ship negotiation with the salvage tug broke down over the Open Form, then with authority from the head office was agreed to. The Penlee SAR station was called to rescue the crew after the SAR helicopter was unable to rescue them.
The lifeboat rescued four and went back for the rest.
Both vessels were lost in heavy seas with 16 men.
