Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone could give me advice about shipping through maritime. I work for http://www.optiledge.com, a maker of plastic pallets. Although we have a lot of information about the cost, efficacy, and durability of plastic pallets when used for both land and air transport I was hoping somebody might be using plastic pallets for maritime transport and could chime in on how they hold up. Particular stresses I am interested in are corrosion compared to wooden pallets, ease of loading/offloading, and what type of jobs you use them for. Thanks for the info!

Re: Ship Transport
To be honest I dont think the average mariners deal with pallet handling a whole lot, while carrying out of their duties onboard a commercial ship. I might be wrong, but pallets would be generally utilized in smaller quantities of goods which are already packaged in containers, that are handled long before it reaches the harbour. Perhaps pallets are still common on reefer ships, but I believe this is probably going to containerization as well. Interesting question though.
