The BCIT Marine Campus in North Vancouver launched its world-class marine training Simulation Centre earlier this year and is seeking a regular, full-time Simulator Technician to join their team.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Simulator Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair and operation of simulators and equipment in the engine, bridge and tugboat training programs. By providing high level maintenance expertise, along with development and operator functions, this position plays an important role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Centre.
Specific duties include:
conducting preventative maintenance on simulators within the learning environment
conducting initial assessment of faulty equipment
supporting, troubleshooting and repairing electronics equipment including all hardware, software and the interconnectivity between them
coordinating with suppliers regarding warranty and non-warranty replacements
performing upgrades and expediting acquisition of parts and other components as required

Qualifications
Diploma of Technology in computer systems, and a certification in a technical trade in the field of electrical/electronics, plus up to one year of specialized training in marine or naval electronics a definite asset
Four years of general experience, plus up to four years of experience at a similar level of responsibility, including maintenance and operation of simulation equipment and or troubleshooting in the marine, electronic, IT, or engineering fields
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Kongsberg and/or Transas technical support training
Training in “Tag Out and Lock Out” procedures
MS Office and electronic mail, and internet experience required
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proven ability to develop, document and implement policies and procedures
Ability to communicate effectively with varying levels of stakeholders
Proven ability to work within a fast paced and demanding environment with frequently changing priorities
Excellent organizational, time management and record-keeping skills
Demonstrated ability to problem solve and make responsible decisions
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
Must be available evenings and weekends and in emergency situations when required
May be required to travel
Maintains currency in the field and learning on the job essential
*Please note: These are the minimum required qualifications. This position is a dayshift position as defined in Article 14.1 of the Collective Agreement.
