About the Organization

The Pacific Pilotage Authority (PPA) is the federal Crown corporation responsible for providing safe, reliable and efficient marine pilotage and related services in the coastal waters of British Columbia, including the Fraser River. The mandate of the Authority is to establish, operate, maintain, and administer, in the interest of safety, an efficient pilotage service within this area of jurisdiction.

About the Opportunity

Currently, the Pacific Pilotage Authority is looking to hire a full-time Shore-Based Launch Engineer in Victoria, British Columbia!

To apply for this role, you must have at minimum a 3rd Class Marine Engineer's Certificate of Competency, or an equivalent amount of experience.

Our ideal candidate will have theoretical and practical experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing small vessels.

Ah hah, beat you to the punch. Posted a few days ago, ehehe, its all good. Was just down in Victoria checking out the vessels, they are pretty big. Would be a nice gig.

yeah, but what 3M can afford to live in Victoria? That's for the overfed, newly wed and nearly dead. :)

Yeah that is definitely the biggest drawback, I have no idea what the wage is, but I know the ccg and dnd have not kept up with reality in the pay dept.

That's an understatement Martin. It is even worse for the shore engineers. They need a bucketful of certification that is kept up to date and experience in ship machinery, hull, contracting, regulations and specifications but the Treasury Board seems to think they should donate it for nothing.

TB is not the problem with us, it's the Union! They have no idea what anyone in the Marine world does.
