Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC) is seeking a person to take a lead role in Technical Management for its marine entities. NGC wholly owns NGC Nunatsiavut Marine Inc. which owns and operates a tug and 2 barges on the coast of Labrador, Eastern Canada and North. NGC’s other marine interests include the management of the MV Northern Ranger, MV Sir Robert Bond, and shore-based operations on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful candidate would be responsible for all technical aspects concerning the vessels and shore-based equipment. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:

Implement and manage a Planned Maintenance System for all assets;
Develop specifications and manage all vessel refits and dry dockings;
Work closely with Technical Management for Dept. of Transportation and Works regarding Government owned vessels;
Ensure all assets maintain appropriate operating certification;
Liaise with Class and Transport Canada regarding marine assets;
Assist with any new-build or vessel acquisition process;
Work closely with and mentor on board technical personnel in the proper management of marine assets.

Qualifications:

3-5 year experience as a Chief Engineer or 5-10 year experience as a Naval Architect
2nd Class Marine Engineering Certificate or Technical Diploma in Naval Architecture;
1st Class Marine Engineering Certificate or Degree in Naval Architecture would be considered an asset;
Shore-based management experience in a marine capacity;
Project Management designation would be considered an asset.

The location for this position is flexible, although St. John’s, NL would be preferred.

Preference will be given to beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement.
