The Marine Branch oversees delivery of inland ferry services through private sector operating agreements. Through a program of contractual quality audits, the Branch ensures that the inland ferries are operated in a safe, efficient, and effective manner in accordance with contractual requirements and the appropriate marine regulations. The process also ensures that maintenance of ferries and docks, including major refits or ferries during the five year cycle, are also performed in accordance with contract requirements and applicable marine regulations.

The Branch is also responsible for ensuring that British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. complies with the Coastal Ferry Services Contract (CFSC). The CRSC is a 60-year agreement between the Province of British Columbia and B.C. Ferry Services Inc. BC Ferries carries 8 million vehicles and 20 million passengers with 35 vessels and 47 ports of call annually.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Marine Branch, and in support of the Ministry’s service plan, the Marine Manger leads and manages contracted inland ferry services to ensure provision of safe, efficient and effective fresh water ferry services to the travelling public. Operating with considerable independence, the position supports the Executive Director in providing safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of inland ferries and oversees the planning, development and delivery of asset improvement and replacement programs.

Qualifications:

In order for applicants to be considered for this position, their resume must clearly demonstrate that they have the following:

Education:
• Related university degree (e.g. marine transportation, naval architecture, engineering, or business) and 5 years recent related experience
• Related Masters degree and 3 years recent related experience
• Combination of other relevant education (in areas such as: marine, project management, contract management, and/or asset management) and experience may be considered

Experience:
• Managing complex projects;
• Managing contracts;
• Analyzing and providing advice to resolve complex issues
• Working with stakeholders to achieve identified objectives
• While not required, experience in the marine industry would be preferred
