As Chief Engineer you will work on board our Trail Suction Hopper Dredge - TSHD (5300kW, Panama Flag) within near coast waters of Vancouver, BC. You will be responsible for maintenance and repairs of all technical installations on board, and supervision of the engine room crew in compliance with safety, maritime and environmental regulations at all times. A ‘hands on’ mentality is required. Communicating with project managers, site superintendents, surveyors, and local authorities is part of the daily job.

We offer a working environment on board the largest TSHD in the Canada and the largest non-passenger vessel in British Columbia. The vessel is deployed on a long term ten year contract with local authorities as such we offer a long term position working on rotation to allow time at home.

Reporting Structure:

The Chief Engineer will report to the Captain of the FRPD 309.

Key Responsibilities:
Implementation and execution of company policies and the Ships Safety Management System.
Coordination of engineering crew activities.
Yearly assessment of the engineering crew and education of crew on board.
Checking and maintaining of safety and environmental regulations on board.
Maintaining engine room administration (e.g. ships log, daily report).
Comply with national and international maritime law and regulations.
Ensuring that maintenance is carried out in an efficient and most economical manner in cooperation with companies Technical Management.

Required Skills:
Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office and technical software applications
Excellent English communications skills, written and verbal
Some heavy lifting required
Climb ladders, stand or walk for long periods of time required
Ability to work on deck in a marine environment

Qualifications:
Certificate of Competency (STCW 95 - III/2).
Experience in the dredging industry.
Fluent in English
