The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC), a not-for-profit organization, ensures the safe and efficient passage of marine vessels along the St. Lawrence Seaway, which extends from Montreal to mid-Lake Erie.Given that the Seaway includes 13 Canadian locks and 2 U.S. locks,we share responsibility for the System with our American counterpart, the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.Together,we coordinate on a host of operational activities, ranging from traffic management to navigation aids.


The Engineer, Electrical Power is responsible for designing, planning, and the execution of projects as well as establishing maintenance programs in order to meet operating requirements and ensuring the reliability of the Seaway system.


Oversee operation and maintenance of high voltage power distribution systems and hydroelectric generating station
Complete and/or oversee the completion of designs, specifications and drawings for all assigned work (i.e. perform design, and oversee draft and/or inspection work, signing off documents) in accordance with Engineering principles, codes, standards and regulations;
Manage projects and contracts in a safe and efficient manner according to targets, quality standards, cost and project constraints through to the appropriate post project evaluations;
Ensure compliance with electricity and power related regulations of the provincial and federal government and agreements with the local distribution companies and electrical generators on the canal;
Ensure the final commissioning and start-up of all new works to a fully operating state;
Provide expert assistance in applicable area of Engineering;
Assume Controlling Authority responsibilities when required;
Contribute to annual budget and manage expenditures within approved limits; and,
Participate in the medium and long term planning of infrastructure maintenance;
Provide support to operational safety programs and initiatives as required.


General and Specific Knowledge:

Thorough knowledge of design standards, project management practices and applicable safety codes; and,
Familiarity with applicable standards, rules and regulations with respect to performing duties, including power generation, controls, distribution systems and associated equipment (e.g. breakers, transformers, protection systems, programming, etc.).

Formal Education and/or Certification(s)

University degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in electrical power systems;
Member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario and,
Valid driver's license with an insurable record

Years of Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in electrical engineering analysis, design, maintenance and rehabilitation; and,
Two (2) years of experience troubleshooting in an operational environment

Demonstrated ability to:

Communicate effectively in the regional working language (English);
Analyze and solve problems;
Prioritize the order of work, tasks and duties to be completed on projects;
Manage large multi-discipline projects (from concept and design through to the execution and completion of the project);
Work in an environment focused on client service, quality and teamwork;
Utilize applicable software such as SAP, MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel PowerPoint) and a Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS);
Lead and support employees towards the achievement of objectives;
Develop and adhere to budgets; and,
Present technical plans, specifications and drawings to relevant stakeholders.

HOURS OF WORK: 37 1/2 hours
SALARY: Class G $45.63 to $51.04/hour
