You will conduct inspections, surveys or examinations of marine vessels, offshore structures, and material vendors to assess, monitor and report on their condition and the products on them. Marine surveyors also inspect equipment intended for new or existing vessels to ensure compliance with various standards or specifications. Marine surveys typically include the structure, machinery and equipment (navigational, safety, electronics, etc.) and general condition of the structure or vessel.
It also includes judging materials on board and their condition.

Daily Responsibilities

Visits vessels, marine structures, and manufacturers for routine survey activities.
Performs work that involves conventional surveying practices, but may include moderately complex problem resolution and coordination of activities among other disciplines.
Prepares technically accurate and timely survey reports, and responses to letters, faxes, and other forms of communication.
Begins to work directly with clients to identify and resolve problems in area of technical expertise.
Maintains files in an orderly and up-to-date manner.


Desired Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Equivalent Degree
Advanced Degree preferred
Experience as a sea-going engineer
Experience working aboard offshore structures in an engineering capacity
Thorough understanding of marine propulsion systems
Ability to read and understand engineering plans


Working Conditions

Extensive traveling to and from customer survey sites and manufacturing plants and go aboard various marine vessels, offshore platforms, or structures.
Some work may be performed in an office environment.
Some work will be performed in close and confined spaces, and it will be necessary to climb vertical ladders of various heights, construction staging of various heights, and unstaged steel structures up to three (3) meters.
Use of small tools and the wearing of safety equipment, such as protective clothing, gloves, safety glasses, hardhats, flashlights, and boots, is required.
