VP Engineering
Location: Halifax City, NS

Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is part of the J.D. Irving Ltd. group of companies and is in the business of building quality ships and repairing vessels. The company’s primary site is Halifax Shipyard, with three other locations in the Maritime Provinces. Irving Shipbuilding is currently working on a number of significant projects for the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Reporting to the President, the VP of Engineering will have the responsibility for leading the Engineering team in the most significant Royal Canadian Navy Shipbuilding project in 20 years. The successful candidate will bring significant vision and leadership to the project.

Responsibilities:
· Ensure development of optimized procedures including Engineering resources
· Delivery of projects on time and on budget
· Serve as a mentor and leader to Engineering staff, creating a culture of continual improvement, innovation and open communication
· Assure that projects are developed primarily to meet and exceed specific customer requirements
· Develop a team of senior employees who will have responsibility of securing resources needed to complete upcoming and ongoing projects

Qualifications and Experience:
· Qualified Engineer, preferably Naval Architect or Marine Engineer
· P.Eng, MBA or PMP considered to be a strong asset
· Minimum of 15 years of naval marine experience
· Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in naval marine environments leading high performing teams
· Knowledge of working with a Government and naval customer base

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
