Duties:
The Marine Engineer operates main engines ensuring that all auxiliaries, pumps, ventilating fans, steering motors and furnaces are functioning if a safe and efficient manner. The Marine Engineer inspects, repairs and maintains the mechanical and electrical equipment on the ferry. The Marine Engineer also assumes duties related to the Mate including arranging vehicles and/or cargo on deck, collecting tickets where applicable and ensuring that the boat is clean at all times. The crews on the ferry work varied shifts to support 24 hour operations, 365 day per year.

Qualifications:
Grade 10 or an acceptable equivalent combination of knowledge and experience. A valid 4th Class Marine Engineer Certificate or equivalent, plus three years mechanical experience is required, as well as Marine Emergency Duties (MED) Certificates, a up to date Seafarer’s Marine Medical Certificate and valid Marine First Aid. This position requires that the ability to lift 50 pounds, as well as standing, shovelling, walking, climbing and sitting.

Offer of employment is conditional upon the completion of all applicable background checks and confirmation of credentials, the results of which must be satisfactory to the employer or will result in termination of your employment.

Pay Grade: MOS 13

Salary Range: $43,543 - $44,722

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.
