Responsibilities

Manages the work of staff engaged in the repair, maintenance and servicing of the SeaBus vessels, in order to provide seaworthy vessels to meet the daily transit system requirements.

Manages the work of SeaBus Engineering by planning and directing a comprehensive maintenance schedule for all major equipment, including: vessels, terminals, physical properties and non-revenue vehicles, emergency maintenance and capital projects. Responds to trouble calls including mechanical or electrical failures in the system and oil spills. Determines the severity of the failure and action to be taken. Plans and supervises the dry docking of ferries in shipyards and ferry terminal repairs and oversees major overhaul, underwater repairs and removal/replacement of equipment. Arranges for outside contractors for building maintenance and supervises work performed. Works directly with Stores Person to control inventory.

Manages reporting staff, including planning, assigning and supervising of work and selection, motivation, guidance, training and performance management.

Ensures both assets and vessels comply with local, national and international maritime legislation of Classification Society and Flag State requirements. Ensures compliance with the requirements of the ISM Code to provide a standard for pollution prevention and for safe management and operation of SeaBus vessels and shore based facilities. Inspects all safety equipment and rescue boats to ensure compliance with Classification Society and Flag State requirement standards. Ensures ongoing staff training complies with Transport Canada certification requirements and ensures staff competence in the application of current marine technology, maintaining and updating oil spill response and environmental protection plan for each vessel and terminal.

Coordinates and participates in the development and optimization on new processes. Coordinates the analysis work and search for causes of nonconformities and the devising of corrective action needed to ensure that defects do not reoccur.

Participates in vessel and terminal studies and recommends system modifications and engineering changes. Researches products and suppliers and participates in the selection of contractors for tendered work. Prepares business plans and monitors capital expenditures. Prepares and monitors annual operating budgets annual and long-term work plans, staffing, regular maintenance, component modifications and replacement requirements.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in Marine Engineering with a minimum of a Chief Engineer’s ticket, plus courses in supervisory skills, labour relations and business administration.

Requires five (5) years experience in progressively responsible positions, which include budget management and supervisory experience in the management of marine maintenance where operational and maintenance needs require a high level of planning and scheduling.

•Solid leadership, development and team building skills to provide direction and manage reporting staff.
•Solid computer skills in MS Office suite and use of web-based systems.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. Work Schedule
37.5 hours per week.
