Job Description: JOB OVERVIEW

The Marine Operations Coordinator is a unique operational role with an opportunity for growth in a progressively responsible position within Canada's largest integrated Oil and Gas Company.

The main area of responsibility will be providing marine expertise on marine technical and commercial matters, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operations of shipments of crude/products. The successful candidate will need to be a good problem solver and forward thinker to plan, coordinate and execute cargo operations, vessel vetting and chartering activities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Co-ordinate of the safe and economical marine transportation for both domestic and international trades
Liaise with marine terminals (both owned and others), refineries, regional supply offices, ship owners, agents, surveyors and expeditors on all matters related to marine movements
Administer affreightment contracts (COA's and spot movements) for the Manager Marine
Keep abreast of all operational matters with clients and suppliers and supplying updates to Manager Marine
Prepare a weekly schedule for all movements under his/her responsibility
Input cost and cargo data relevant to movements into the Marine system
Create and maintain of individual voyage files for each movement
Ensure that proper inspection services are available for each voyage.
Verify relevant invoices for movements.
Prepare and negotiate demurrage claims for terminals and ships.
Risk Management Strategies
Client relationship management
Market intelligence
Oversee shipping service provider performance
Enhance and develop freight strategies
Improve Commercial negotiation and chartering activities
Ensure company and regulatory industry compliance
Providing SIRE/CDI inspection services
Providing analytical support to Manager Marine

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Industry leader with minimum 15 years experience in marine and shipping business activities with an emphasis on chartering, operations and post fixture with at least 8 years of sailing experience and/or training in shipping
University and/or post-graduate degree on shipping/safety/finance is preferred
Preference will be given to qualified Master Mariners and Chief Engineers

Skills and Knowledge:

SIRE/CDI vetting experience preferred
Excellent computer skills - in particular with Database management/Excel/Word/PowerPoint
Strong safety focus and forward-thinking approach
Motivated and eager to take on new challenges
Works autonomously and with minimal supervision
Effective and strong leadership experience and qualities, continuous improvement/"more is possible" mindset with the ambition/drive to support Suncor's vision
Preference will be given to candidates who have proven track record on promoting/assessing ship-safety as well familiar with IMO protocols/Canada Shipping act
Excellent communication and negotiation skills with strong report writing capability
Thorough knowledge of standard oil company charter parties, clauses and terminology
Knowledge of post-fixture/COA work -nomination, demurrage, and invoicing
Must have the ability to make decisions involving significant potential losses without supervision
Fluent in English (both spoken and written)
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent time management, stakeholder management skills as well as the ability to delegate and act decisively.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Relocation will be provided to the successful candidate
Some travel required
Operation monitoring will involve weekend/free
