Lead Superintendent – Machinery
Location: Shanghai, China
Reports to: Site Manager

Position Summary:
This position reports to the Site Manager and is responsible for the review of machinery plans and documentation, overseeing the installation and testing of the equipment installed on board the vessel, at the shipyard, subcontractors’ and equipment manufacturers’. The Lead Superintendent is responsible for ensuring that the construction, installation and testing of equipment on board the vessel meets the approved drawings, specifications and memorandum of agreement. Managing the team of machinery inspectors, ensuring goals for the team, and roles and responsibilities for the individual team members are understood and fulfilled.

Major Responsibilities:
• Treat safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.
• Ensure that the worksite for any inspection or test is in a safe condition in accordance with the contractual rules and regulations.
• Ensure that any unsafe situations are reported to the Site Manager and the Superintendent, HSE as a first priority.

PLAN APPROVAL
• Review machinery plans for specific projects ensuring that the machinery drawings meet the contract specifications and agreed meeting memoranda.
• Report any modifications or proposals that affect cost, delivery date or deadweight to the Site Manager.
• Advise of any areas where machinery design is lacking and could be improved or optimized with regard to performance, maintenance, future regulations reliability and redundancy.

SITE SUPERVISION
• Lead the machinery inspection team, manages its workload and reports any significant issues to the Site Manager.
• Ensure that the company’s guidelines and requirements for scheduled and non-scheduled inspections are followed by all of the machinery inspection team members.
• Ensure that construction, installation and testing inspections assigned by the Site Manager are attended in accordance with the approved drawings, specifications and company guidelines.
• Ensure that approved machinery equipment and components fulfill the contract specifications and all regulatory requirements, and ensure that the systems and design are optimized for the vessels.
• Attend official trials of the vessels.
• Raise non-conformities as per procedure for any item where the design, equipment, installation, workmanship, construction testing or performance does not fulfill the approved drawings or specifications or meeting memoranda.
• Advise the Site Manager of any areas where the machinery equipment and systems installation are lacking and could be improved or optimized with regard to performance, maintenance, future regulations, reliability and redundancy.
• Obtain approval of machinery drawings, test plans and test procedures as required.

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
• Background and training as either a Machinery Engineer or Chief Engineer.
• Extensive experience on site for new buildings.
• Leadership in managing multinational teams of employees and contractors.
• Familiar with current technology and industry regulations.
• Expertise in the design, installation, testing and operation of marine equipment and systems.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficient in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook and Office software programs.
• Proficient in speaking, writing and reading English.
