Note that MED A1, B1 and B2 no longer exist. Canada has gone all STCW since 2007, MEDs are now STCW VI/1, with respect to basic safety (old A1 and B2 with some extra bits about personal responsibility n stuff thrown in) STCW VI/2, with respect to survival craft and rescue boats, other than fast rescue boats (old B1) and, for STCW III/1, Engineer in charge of a Watch (4th Class), MED VI/3, with respect to advanced fire fighting for Officers (old B2 and C)

Somebody hasn't been reading the Marine Personnel Regulations, section 147.
