Marine Fleet Manager based in Vancouver, BC

Excellent Opportunity for a versatile & experienced Marine Maintenance Manager on the West Coast of BC.

Our client is a progressive marine transportation company with a fleet of tug boats, ocean going barges and other heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will be a trained or ticketed marine mechanic, engineer or other related discipline with more than ten years progressive supervisory experience. The candidate must have experience managing a fleet of heavy equipment with marine experience being highly preferred. Keys to this position’s success are excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization and the ability to independently manage all related in-house maintenance with the team of trades as well as externally contracted maintenance.

Primary responsibilities include:

Proactive oversight and scheduling of fleet maintenance including engineering designs & regulatory compliance;
Budgeting and project management including staff hiring and scheduling;
Communication with a variety of staff, contractors, suppliers and other service providers;
Liaison with union representatives, insurance classification association and Transport Canada, and;
Implementation of the company’s rigorous Occupational Health and Safety program and corporate ethics and values.

Position Specifications

Education and Experience
A post-secondary degree in Engineering, Technology or related disciplines; OR successful completion of an apprenticeship program which qualifies the individual as a Power Engineer, Stationary Engineer, Marine Engineer or Licensed Mechanic.
A minimum of 8-10 years supervisory experience within a mechanical repair environment where the individual has demonstrated a high level of technical competence through progressively senior positions.
Systems development and project management experience is highly preferred.

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently in a proactive and effective manner to accomplish responsibilities.
A thorough working/practical knowledge of vessel hull, machinery and equipment repair.
Exceptional abilities to diagnose, troubleshoot and exercise sound judgement under time pressure.
Passionate and takes pride in one’s profession. Demonstrated abilities to mentor, train and transfer knowledge to other staff members.

Salary: Compensation ranges based on experience and benefits are comprehensive and industry leading.
Schedule: Full-time / days and on call 24/7 for emergencies.
Status: Permanent
