Occupational Certification Requirements
• Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency as Marine Engineer, Fourth Class Motor or higher; or
• Valid Province of British Columbia Fourth Class Power Engineer Certificate or higher.

Note: Applicants who hold a British Columbia Power Engineer Certificate must also hold, and provide copies of Marine Emergency Duties (MED) Certificates A1, B1 and B2
Experience

Recent related marine engineering experience within the last three (3) years. This experience can be obtained through a minimum of one (1) year of sea service working on a vessel or floating industrial barge OR one (1) year service in a shore-based marine operations, maintenance, repair, training or related facility.

I've been in numerous Gov of Canada "competition" and they always seem like shams. They advertise, but really have no intention of hiring anybody outside the close circle that's already there using some loophole, or "equivalent to" clause. Why waste the money and time of going through this charade.

the problem with this job, with them only looking for a 4th class, the horsepower may not be high enough to keep your ticket valid for international trips. Good luck to anyone with those type of ships keeping anyone. They'll be manned by retirees, which may not be bad for me.

We don't use horsepower any more, only the USA uses horses, we are technologicaly advanced, we use Kilowatts.
