Job Description

This position is located in Corner Brook, and is responsible for the oversight of of the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and repairs of engine room machinery and equipment onboard a fleet of purse seiners operating from Corner Brook, Newfoundland. This individual is expected to perform troubleshooting, problem solving as well as preventive and corrective maintenance, to prevent down-time and to ensure the efficient and continuing function of a fleet of five vessels. Maintenance responsibilities include the ship's main engines and related equipment, the main propulsion and power supply systems, as well as procuring materials needed to repair marine equipment and installation of this equipment. This individual would be the interface with CSI and Transport Canada, and arrange for regular inspection as mandated by government authorities.

The qualifications for this position include a Marine Chief Engineer License and a strong knowledge of electrode welding, refrigeration and air conditioning and computer literacy. Knowledge of electrical electronics systems would be a useful asset.

A minimum of five years experience as a Chief Engineer is required for this position. The successful individual will be expected to have strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills, and very strong leadership and supervision skills. This individual should be able to work independently and be an excellent team player, exhibiting good oral and written communication skills. He/she would prepare regular technical reports and budgets for the use of management.
