The Fleet Director is responsible and accountable for the safe, efficient, and cost effective performance of the ships and personnel assigned to his/her fleet.

The Fleet Director provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, problem solving, removal of obstacles and support for team members, both ashore and at sea. They are responsible for treating safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.

Responsibilities:

Hold safety and environmental protection as a value
Developing, signing off and monitoring the ship team’s business plan and budget.
Ensuring effective operation of the fleet through planning and allocation of resources.
Establishing performance measures and monitoring team and individual performance.
Mentoring individual team members to help them achieve their goals.
Driving Operational Leadership and improvement in the safety culture on board and in the team.
Ensuring team is appropriately staffed, trained and resourced to achieve the team’s business plan.
Working with Marine HR and having the final decision in the selection of Masters & Chief Engineers for team vessels.
Maximizing the effectiveness of the fleet support through the continual monitoring and upgrading of practices, procedures, and resources.
Ensuring team compliance with the Teekay Safety Management System
Monitoring/reporting on ship operating budgets to the Head of Ship Management and apprising potential problems/remedies.
Providing input to dry-dock selection, taking into account safety, budget, availability & deviation
Ensuring team’s delivery to KPIs.
Working with Teekay Tankers Commercial Team to ensure optimum dry dock solutions are reached.
Coordinating/ channeling of information to Technical, Operations, HSEQ and IT departments.
In consultation with the Head of Ship Management, coordinate pre-purchase pre-takeover inspection of vessel and condition surveys. Conversion and upgrading study and feasibility, cost estimates, planning, execution and supervision of major conversion projects.
Ensuring the Ship Superintendents follow-up on their responsibilities with special attention to the below listed TMSA aspects:

KPIs are maintained.
PMS schedules correctly followed.
Critical and operationally important maintenance, if overdue, assessed & Postponement issued.
Statutory or class recommendations dealt with as soon as possible.
Defect reports from vessels.

Closing of all Internal and External Audits, PSC and vetting Inspections

Ensuring that proper follow up and investigation is carried out for all accidents and injuries on board ships and that actions are taken to prevent similar incidents. Assisting in making investigation reports for machinery/equipment damage.
Responsible for developing and achieving environmental objectives, targets and programs in liaison with the Head of Ship Management and HSEQ Director.
Continually reviewing team performance, in relation to all procedures and policies, along with IT and ship team members.
Reviewing analysis of voyage profitability and monitoring all significant team commercial activities with Teekay Tankers commercial team and assisting where necessary.
Providing guidance and monitoring of dry docks/repair lists by vessel and Ship Superintendent, ensuring appropriate decisions are made, especially when the technicality of the job is difficult or the experience of the Ship Superintendent requires support.
Monitoring dry docking and shipyard activities and ensuring team takes required actions.
Monitoring results of all vetting inspections and ensuring follow-up on findings and timely corrective actions are taken.
Working with team leaders to determine and propose best practices.
Provide input into the Fleets Management Review and act on required corrective actions.
Monitoring/following up with customer requirements to ensure their needs and expectations are met.
Ensuring personal and team member visits to vessels occur.
Overseeing the office in the absence of the Head of Ship Management.

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

To have a Masters (F.G) or Chief Engineer (Class 1) Certificate of Competency.
Have minimum 3 years’ experience as Master/Chief Engineer on board vessels.
Have minimum 5 years’ experience ashore in Ship Management.
Experience in a ship management position.
Extensive experience of the vessel type(s) managed by team
Analytical, problem solving, time management, project management and decision making skills.
Ability to respond positively to customers in an effective manner.
Demonstrates teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills
