Second Engineer (Marine)
McAsphalt Industries Limited - Hamilton, ON

MCASPHALT MARINE TRANSPORTATION LIMITED.
Title: Chief Engineer, MMTL

Location: Hamilton, Ontario

Reporting to: Maintenance Manager

Responsibilities:
In the position of Chief Engineer, your responsibilities will involve the supervision of all engineering personnel on board. In addition, the Chief Engineer will be tasked with maintaining the safe and efficient operations of all machinery on the tug and barge. Key performance areas include the ability to effectively troubleshoot, identify, and perform preventative maintenance to maintain the smooth operation of the vessel. The capability to prevent and respond to mechanical failures as well as cargo leaks and spills is a necessity. Monitoring bunkers and lubricants is also a core function of this role.

Requirements:

Successful applicants will possess suitable experience in the operation and maintenance of ship equipment, familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and relevant past experience with diesel engines. Successful applicants will possess either a First, Second, or Third-Class Engineer Certificate. Additional requirements include a valid Marine Medical certificate, Marine Advanced First Aid, Ship Security Officer Certificate, Supervision of an Oil Transfer Operation (SOTO) or Specialized Oil Tanker Training (SOTT), MED-D (Senior Officers), a valid passport, and ability to travel to the United States. It is preferred that applicants to this position possess confined space training, WHIMIS and all relevant of health and safety training programs.

The typical schedule is 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off and 6 hours on, 6 hours off. Our two tug and barge operations dock most often in Detroit, Windsor Sarnia, Oshawa and Montreal while transporting black oil and asphalt.

Personal characteristics of an ideal candidate include being able to work independently as well as exhibiting conscientious and trustworthy behavior.
