An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Marine Commissioning Engineer to join a large shipbuilding organization in Canada.
Important

Previous experience working as a commissioning engineer within the shipbuilding industry.

The Shipbuilder provides a wide range of products and services to a number of different industries where it leverages on its high-capacity fabrication capabilities for complex, engineered solutions. They are now looking for a Marine Commissioning Engineer to join the team.

Under the responsibility of the Director, Quality Systems, the Marine Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the commissioning, testing and sea trials of systems and equipment of the new construction projects currently on going.

Job Description:

• Responsible for staying abreast of current construction projects that are ongoing;
• Participates in strategic planning for testing, trialing, and the delivery of newly constructed vessels;
• Provides input to Project Planner for preparation of the Project Commissioning schedule, the Test and Trials Schedule and sets the priorities of the systems for pre-commissioning/ commissioning and test and trials in conjunction with both the Commissioning and Trials schedule;
• Co-ordinates with commissioning/test and trials team to perform the pre-commissioning/ commissioning, dock and sea trials according to the written procedures and to monitor progress;
• Works with the Production department and the commissioning/test and trials team to resolve technical issues arising during the construction process and implementing a ''lessons learned'' feedback system during the construction of new vessels;
• Ensures application of quality, safety, and environmental management plans are in accordance with company policy and best shipbuilding and engineering practices;
• Generates commissioning and test plans, procedures, and work instructions based on regulatory, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and customer requirements;
• Setups and configures test setups, fixtures, and instrumentation as required by the test plans and or test standards;
• Ensures that all test and measuring equipment is accompanied by the appropriate calibration certificates and that they are current;
• Implements and deploys test fixtures, testing apparatus and machines and verifies their appropriateness;
• Validate test methods;
• Ensures the accuracy and consistency of data results through thorough documentation processes and develop and write the necessary test reports;
• Ensures that all documentations are signed off by relevant authorities after successful completion of pre- commissioning/ commissioning, dock and sea trials;
• Conducts and/or supervises the testing performed by Test Technicians and other Test Engineers (i.e. OEM Field Service Reps);
• Monitors the commissioning activities performed by Service Engineers on Owner Supplied Equipment;
• Ability to oversee several test projects simultaneously and provide scheduling support to planning.

Requirements:

• Recognized Second Class Marine Engineer with experience of sailing as a Chief Engineer on board ships or offshore vessels. First class certification will be given preference;
• Significant experience as a Marine Commissioning Engineer in new construction in a shipyard;
• Knowledge of ship board systems;
• Experience of new marine system installations and commissioning, ship building, and / or dry docks;
• Bilingual (an asset);
• Ability to communicate with multinational customers;
• Experience on the following fields is considered a benefit:
- serial communication,
- marine automation,
- diesel engines,
- power generation and
- electrical distribution networks
