Job Description

The principal tasks and responsibilities entail:
The Marine Systems Engineer (Mechanical) is to work as a Naval-Marine Engineering Professional in support of the extended dry-docking, maintenance contracts and other in-service contracts for the Canadian navy submarines:
Ensure engineering solutions are developed in accordance with appropriate standards and specifications
Ensure the material safety of the systems, equipment and submarines are considered while developing engineering solutions
Conduct various marine-mechanical engineering tasks to support project, production, supply-chain, trials, testing and quality control
Prepare repair specifications and design deviations for mechanical systems and equipment
Draft drawings in support of the repair requirements and production by shipyard
Process engineering corrections to contracted work scope and surveys
Provide on-site inspection and oversight of marine engineering activities
To take ownership of assigned submarine systems and equipment during design changes/modifications and complete redlining of drawings and specifications
To liaise with the Navy’s onsite team, Design Authority and System Authorities on all matters of engineering decisions affecting the submarine

Job Requirements

The job qualifications and requirements include:
Graduate or post graduate degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering
Training and knowledge in naval engineering and submarine systems
5 to 10 years work experience in shipyards, naval dockyards, marine design/engineering organisation or naval vessels/ submarines is essential
Excellent knowledge of marine and mechanical engineering principles and fundamentals
Sound understanding of refit process, shipyard practices, manufacturing and overhaul process, Quality Assurance/ Quality Control process, engineering material and interpretation of Non-Destructive Evaluations reports
Understanding of the naval design principles and standards for piping, welding/brazing, corrosion, noise, vibration and shock
Demonstrated ability to interpret system and equipment drawings, technical documents, standards and specifications
Strong proficiency in technical writing skills
Working proficiency with Finite Element Analysis modelling, Solid works and Auto CAD
Proficiency in conducting basic engineering calculations
Excellent communication skill in dealing with complex technical issues
Must be eligible to work in Canada
Must be eligible for a Government issued Canadian Secret Security Clearance
