Fraser River, Pile & Dredge (GP) is Canada's largest Marine Construction and Dredging contractor. Overview:
All engine room personnel are under the jurisdiction of the Chief Engineer, and he is responsible for their training and efficient working. Engine room personnel will be encouraged to further their knowledge and obtain higher qualifications in order that they may be prepared for advancement to higher positions within the Company. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the correct conduct of all engine room staff and will handle all matters of discipline concerning the personnel under his control. Disciplinary matters of a serious nature will be referred to the Ship’s Captain for further consideration. Chief Engineers (C/Es) shall only be appointed when they fully meet the following criteria:

Responsibilities:
The C/E is directly accountable to the Master or the Master's delegate. His responsibilities include:

Provide leadership and direction to all ship engineering staff.
Provide daily Standing Orders to Watchkeeping Engineer and Duty Engineer.
Ensuring that the vessel's propulsion machinery and other vital systems and equipment - electrical, deck, HVAC, waste, dredging equipment, fire-fighting etc., are maintained according to the manufacturer’s specifications and class requirements, and operate effectively and efficiently.
Implementation and execution of company policies and the Ships Safety Management System.
Maintaining engine room administration (e.g. ships log, daily report).
Ensuring that repairs of the vessel's propulsion machinery, ships machinery and other vital systems are carried out as per manufacturer’s requirements, safely, efficiently and to Class and flag state requirements.
Complying with national and international maritime law and regulations.
Maintaining an inventory of all critical spare parts in an electronic format and ensuring required spare parts are on board or stored at one of the companies facilities.
Critical consumable liquids such as potable water, fuel and lube oil are monitored
Daily operation of the ship from the mechanical, electrical and electronic perspectives.
Taking action on maintenance issues in a timely manner.
Maintaining good relationships with all shipboard and shore-based personnel.
Being familiar with all equipment on board the ship.
Ensuring that maintenance is carried out in an efficient and most economical manner in cooperation with companies Technical Management.
Provide E & Y with Technical Reports as required
Working with the E&Y Department for scheduling of maintenance and refits
Ensuring required engine room documentation is completed

The Chief Engineer must ensure that:

All engine room personnel are fully familiar with their duties and perform them in an efficient manner.
His staff is fully conversant with all firefighting and emergency procedures, including the location of all remote shut-off and fire dampers.

Qualifications:

Valid Certificates appropriate to the vessel and operating area.
Certificate of Competency

o Preferred - Transport Canada First-Class Engineer, Motor Ship (or equivalent), STCW 95 Regulation - II/2
o Minimum - Transport Canada Second-Class Engineer, Motor Ship (due to voyage area) (or equivalent), STCW 95 Regulation - II/2 with limitations.

Marine Medical Certificate, Transport Canada (or equivalent, note: to be issued by the same country as national CoC)
Certificate(s) of Proficiency in Basic Safety Training, STCW 95 Regulation - VI/1
Personal Survival Techniques, STCW 95 Regulation - VI/1-1,
Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, STCW 95 Regulation - VI/1-2,
Elementary (Marine Basic) First Aid, STCW 95 Regulation - VI/1-3,
Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, STCW 95 Regulation - VI/1-4.
Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats, STCW 95 Regulation - VI/1-2
Certificate of Proficiency in in Advanced Fire Fighting, STCW 95 Regulation - VI/1-3

Required experience:

Trailing Suction Hopper Dredge: 3 years
