Technical Ship Design Manager
Alion Science & Technology Corporation - Vancouver, BC

QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's degree in naval architecture and marine engineering, naval engineering or nautical science or related technical discipline plus 10 years or Master's plus 8 years of experience in a technical position. The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of technical project management experience of a major ship design or construction program(s)

Shipyard experience highly desirable.
Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
Leadership and management skills as evidenced by previous work experience.
Strong customer service orientation

RESPONSIBILITIES :
Responsible for the budget, schedule, and technical performance on major naval auxiliary ship design programs from inception through completion. Manages technical and administrative staff and provides ongoing direction in the technical performance of the assigned program.
Develops and monitors the technical plan including assigned budgets. Ensures project outputs are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to program technical plan and schedule, identifies program technical problems, and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing customer technical specifications.
Prioritizes workload and determines staffing levels and any adjustments in staffing in association with the Alion program manager. Maintains a staffing level to ensure technical quality and appropriate experience levels are consistent with current and projected project activities.
Reviews reports and briefings prepared by technical staff for quality.
Leads technical discussions for project reviews. Prepares and delivers formal briefings.
Ensures that appropriate training is delivered to program technical staff.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customer and other outside agencies.
Acts as primary customer contact for program technical activities. Regularly meets with and updates the customer on project technical status. Leads program technical review sessions with customer to discuss budget, schedule, and technical performance.
Develops new business or expands business with the customer. Coordinates preparation of technical proposals, proposal work statements and specifications, and operating budgets. Participates in negotiating and contract technical changes.
Complies with quality assurance and security procedures in the performance of duties.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Reports to the assigned Alion program manager.
