The Submarine Test Specialist is responsible for controlling and conducting the safe release of systems, testing and commissioning activities, Harbour Acceptance Trials and the execution of Sea Trials during submarine Extended Docking Work Periods (EDWP’s). This involves directing and coordinating unionized employees and working closely with, Production staff, Babcock personnel, sub-contractors and Canadian Navy representatives. Duties & Accountabilities

Maintaining a close working relationship with Project, Production and Safety personnel to ensure that systems/equipment being handed over for testing/commissioning meet the required standard without undue need for rework .
Maintaining a close working relationship with both the CSMG and OSMT representatives, on a one to one basis, in order that the application and achievement of required standards can be demonstrated.
Identifying and recording defects/deficiencies, ensuring that all emergent work is correctly recognised.
Reports to the Submarine Principal Test Specialist about progress, modifications required and the subsequent impact on the commissioning schedule.
Reports progress of commissioning activities.
Supervises tests and trials and ensures they are completed on time and to the customer’s and Classification Societies complete satisfaction.
Conducting Sea Trials as required by the Commissioning Manager, ensuring timely completion of the trials to suit both the Sea Trials and Commanding Officer’s programs.
Must be familiar with the safe operation and working features of all submarine systems and be conversant in testing and commissioning of all Ship, Propulsion and Combat Systems equipment and systems.
Researching and compiling Test Documentation in accordance with the Test Form Index ensuring that the requirements of the Work Specification are understood and included, paying due regard to the relevant Corporate Documentation and associated documentation references.
Inspecting, testing, calibrating and commissioning of systems and equipment in accordance with the relevant documentation and associated referenced documentation, carrying out fault diagnosis and proposing corrective solutions.
Conducting Sea Trials as required by the Commissioning Manager, ensuring timely completion of the trials to suit both the Sea Trials and Commanding Officer’s programs.
Responsible for t he prevention of non-conformance within the Submarine Commissioning Group. Any non-conformance detected shall be reported and controlled in accordance with WMG Quality Assurance Manual.
Monitoring and ensuring adherence to Worksafe BC, WMG Safety Procedures, VSL Site Safety Procedures and all other relevant Health and Safety directives.
Ensures all procedures, tools and documentation required for the testing, trialling, and commissioning activities for completing the EDWP are adequate and activities are carried out safely, promptly and efficiently.

Education and Experience

Completion of Grade 12 education, plus a Diploma in Marine Engineering or a combination of education and experience pertaining to the specific skills required for the position may be considered.
4 - 5 years experience working on large-scale marine projects involving diverse stakeholders.
A Marine Engineering Certificate of Competency would be an added advantage.
