Reporting to the Manager, Centre for Marine Training & Research the incumbent is responsible for supporting multiple marine training facilities (Fire Training Facility and Safety and Survival Facilities (pool and dock)) to deliver contract training programs to the marine industry. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Duties and Responsibilities

Overseeing daily operations and general maintenance at all locations (Fire Training Facility and Safety and Survival Facilities)
Assisting faculty and students through demonstration and orientation of specialized equipment
Acting as the technical and safety specialist support for machinery, equipment and tools
Monitoring students in the safe use of equipment
Performing the following tasks with respect to equipment:
Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining
Setting up and dismantling for all training sessions at all locations
Maintaining the lifeboat, rescue boat and life rafts
Deflating and repacking all life rafts and refilling Carbon dioxide cylinders
Refilling all SCBA air tanks, Carbon Dioxide, dry chemical and water fire extinguishers
Researching and recommending purchase of capital equipment
Sourcing / ordering / purchasing
Monitoring inventory and sourcing / ordering / purchasing supplies as needed
Providing input into facility layout and location of equipment
Assisting trainers to develop appropriate training scenarios
Creating standard operating procedures for all facilities and equipment


Qualifications

Successfully completed a high school diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of the Marine Basic Safety and Marine Advanced First Aid Courses OR Firefighter education and training courses, that are specifically related to fire safety, survival, emergency response, and rescue
Possess and maintain current First Aid and CPR certification
Five years of experience as a firefighter or seafarer
Experience maintaining a wide variety of marine / fire safety equipment
Experience in training and demonstrating others on the use of specialized equipment
Experience in ordering supplies and inventory management
Basic computer skills using the MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook)
Demonstrated ability to communicate information in a clear and concise manner
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a team member
Awareness of health and safety rules and regulations
Demonstrated planning, coordinating and time management skills
Proven analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving skills
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position lifting up to 50 lbs. of equipment such as life rafts


The successful candidate will be required to submit proof of current First Aid and CPR certifications.
