Fleet Operator Trainee

Key Responsibilities:

The candidate will be requested to:

Familiarize him/herself with voyage and time charter parties so as to have a clear understanding of each parties rights and obligations under the different contracts
Learn the technical characteristics of the vessels and how to monitor/analyze the performances of the vessels
Familiarize him/herself with pertinent regulations and internal policies (Operational Security, Cargo, Environment) and understand how they impact the operation of the vessels
Plan voyages with the objective of optimizing revenue and saving time, to draw up the optimal bunkering plan, and understand where to reduce costs
Write precise, clear, and complete instructions to the Masters
Provide instructions and appoint agents, surveyors, stevedores, and weather routing company
Analyze situations that could lead to off-hires or claims
Control cargo documents
Voyage management: proactive monitoring of all parties involved, initiating preventive or corrective action when required; ensure all contractual obligations are met
Analyze voyages on completion and report to management

Core skills:

Quick and inquisitive mind, logical, analytical, problem solver, result oriented
Able to build relationships and develop trust
Organized, good at multi-tasking and prioritizing
Fluent in English (oral and written)
Willing to work outside of office hours
Marine studies degree - Sea-going experience is an asset
Capable of working with current computer applications
