What you’ll be doing…

This position reports to the Academic Chair and may receive daily functional guidance from the faculty member in the assigned program(s). The Program Assistant provides assistance to the Faculty by overseeing safe work practices, monitoring learners during shop and lab activity, overseeing program inventory control procedures and maintaining practices and procedures within the learning environment. This Program Assistant will assist Faculty with learning demonstrations, prepare and build training mock-ups in accordance with applicable industry codes and practices, interact with students in the learning environment to help reinforce learning, and in collaboration with Faculty, assist with the facilitation of safety meetings with students. The Program Assistant will also work with little or periodic supervision on a variety of assignments often requiring judgment and decision.

You have:

Minimum qualifications:

You have a High School Diploma, along with an STCW Certificate of Competency in Marine Engineering and/or trained Firefighter
You have a minimum of five years relevant occupational experience and experience working with Fast rescue craft and enclosed life boats
Depth of knowledge and experience in a variety of trades and technology areas is considered an asset.
Experience in developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program with experience in use of preventative maintenance software (e.g. Magamation), also experience in inventory management and standard housekeeping and safety protocols.
Demonstrate a commitment to the community college philosophy and to the growth and improvement of NSCC.
You are innovative, committed to life-long learning and demonstrate a commitment to community involvement.
Your commitment and evidence of dedication to safety is considered an integral function within this program assistant portfolio.
Your hands-on/practical approach to problem solving will serve as an excellent backdrop for student learning within the NSCC School of Trades & Technology programming areas
You are familiar with the full suite of MS Office, the Internet and Outlook.
Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations, Standard First Aid, CPR and discipline relevant safety training or willingness to obtain within the first year
As a creative self-starter, you have been recognized for your high energy, your commitment to excellence and safety standards.
A valid drivers license would be considered an asset.
