78k a yr in Vancouver, that will barely cover rent on a bachelor suite. Then must speak Tagalog, and CE seagoing and shore side experience, plus TWO degrees, wow, and I thought WCMRC was looking for unicorns... or maybe they are just following the Bernard Scrip (tm), to be able to hire TFW.

You're right and I agree Banasa, but...how much is a 3rd engineer's salary deep sea? The great lakes salaries are the way there are because of the working conditions and crew cutdowns leading to more overtime. IMO anyway.

I think the people who dream up these ads are not the same people who hire/make the final say on who is hired. Someone who knows the job... but honestly, how hard is this advertised job really. In a world of planned maintenance systems everywhere and the internet, what, you just make sure parts are ordered and stocked? Stay up to date on regulations and stay ahead of the game? I bet a hard part of the job would be dealing with other office people and budgets or whatever... or I guess putting out fires and micromanaging crews are both difficult too (can't believe the crew thing is part of their job). my 2 cents, have a good one

Well I did the tech job for over 10 years, minus the crew and I was pretty busy. I wouldn't do it again for that salary.
