With 47 ports of call, 34 vessels, and more than 500 sailings every day, BC Ferries is the largest independently-owned ferry company in the world. Dedicated to safety, excellence, innovation, and people, we are committed to continuously improving the west coast travel experience of our customers.

A disciplined leader, you are responsible for the delivery of expert technical advice on control systems and electronics for BC Ferries’ vessels, including new construction, refits, and improvements. You will provide theoretical, diagnostic and forensic support to ensure appropriate asset management of the ships’ systems, and you will be accountable for scope and quality inspections onboard vessels at shipyards and the inspection of materials and equipment on supplier’s premises. You will direct staff and contractors in the technical research and preparation of reports that detail forensic analyses of failures, failure mode analysis and vessel condition, and you will make recommendations on refurbishment and fleet renewal and vessel class strategies. You will also ensure the company is in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, maintaining effective working relationships with regulatory agencies.

Your exceptional judgement and problem-solving skills allow you to efficiently recognize, assess and isolate complex issues, resulting in timely and appropriate resolutions. You are an excellent communicator and effective leader, with the ability to influence and build positive relationships with all levels of an organization by adjusting style and methods to suit the specific audience. You bring a strong track record of recommending new ideas and processes that improve work safety and quality, and you are dedicated to achieving a high level of service satisfaction.

You have a bachelor's degree in electronic, mechanical, or electrical engineering, with an emphasis on control systems and/or power management systems. You are a licensed professional engineer or an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with a pending license, and you bring a minimum of five years of experience working with control systems and electronics, both theoretical and applied. Preference will be given to those with experience in marine projects, which may include post-graduate work towards a master’s degree or Ph.D.
