Ship Maintenance Coordinator

Job Description
Reporting directly to the SMC Supervisor, the Ship Maintenance Coordinator is at the heart of the in-service support contract. S/he performs waterfront oversight of all day to day sub-contracted work onboard vessels, payloads and, in some cases, service provider shops. S/he is responsible for quality of work, safe work practices and environmental compliance. The individual must be experienced, trained, fit, and highly motivated.

Responsibilities
Provide support to ships, alongside or deployed, as requested by WEAF on a 24/7 basis.
Provide technical support for material WEAFs and third line overhaul.
Create WEAF paperwork via the MIS and initiate service provider response to work requests in accordance with ISO Procedure 209.
Source repair services and supplies to satisfy requirements as detailed in the WEAF Job Description in accordance with Standing Offer Agreements.
Supervise as required to satisfy the successful completion of defined work.
Inspect material supplied by service providers as specified in standards, DND orders or classification rules.
Inspect systems and equipment including trialing of such equipment on completion of service providers’ work and sign-off of hold points.
Check service provider test equipment for calibration and certification currency.
Conduct work-site checks for safety and environment compliance.
Conduct and control equipment trials (alongside or at sea) as requested by the DTA.
Provide formal report, if requested, on trial results.
Manage ISS workload using the computer-based Management Information System (MIS).
Manage competitive tenders, if so required by the ISS contract.
Be prepared to participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
Provide briefs and demonstrations to staff and service providers on safety topics.
Conduct waterfront inspections as per procedure 258 and complete form 258-1
Assist QEHS specialist’s in monitoring Service Providers on the water front.

Deployed Support.
Make arrangements with service providers in ports of call prior to the ship(s) deploying or check which service providers have been used in those ports for previous deployments;
Receive requests, verbal or via WEAF, from deployed ships;
Be prepared to travel to the port of call when work has a significant operational impact or environmental and/or safety hazard. Inform DTA as soon as possible of this requirement;
Liaise with deployed ships so that service provider support is available on ships’ arrival at their destination

Docking Work Period
Assist SMC Supervisor in conducting bidders conference and ship viewing;
Assist SMC Supervisor to shipyard queries;
Review the bids with the SMC Supervisor and LOM checking for compliance;
Make arrangements for travel and lodging in the winning shipyards location;
Liaise with shipyard management and supervisors;
Oversee work supervising shipyard staff in accordance with scope of work defined in specifications.
Manage arisings throughout docking work period remaining cognisant of approved budget.
Provide weekly progress reports to SMC Supervisor.
Prepare the Post Docking Report.

Education and Requirements
Post secondary education;
Naval Charge Certificate (Cert 4) Canadian Forces and served as CERA or Chief Engineer;
First Class Marine Engineer equivalent (DOT);
Coursing in engineering, project management and leadership.
CPO2 of Technical trade (HT,ET,CSE) with a minimum of 3 yrs experience
Five years experience leading an engineering department (1½ of which must be at sea) or a comparable position of authority ashore;
Training and experience in safe work practices (i.e. first aid, man aloft, first aid, confined space, personal protective equipment, WHMIS);
Supervisory, management and leadership training (e.g. CF Senior Leadership Course);
Training in computer use (word processing, data bases, spreadsheets);
Training in environmental policies and application;
Working knowledge of marine industry regulations;
Experience in managing projects (multiple activities).
Valid driver’s licence and personal vehicle required
