Clearwater Seafoods’ Engineering department requires a Fleet Maintenance and Project Manager. The position is a Full Time and will be located in Lunenberg, NS and will report to the Director of Engineering.

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to support the capital expenditure programs as defined in the 5 year strategic program as well as oversee the capital expenditure program for fleet operations and especially the refits of vessels and major overhauls of the vessels, as well as development and implementation of manufacturing processes on the vessels. This role will support engineering and other departments to work together cohesively in the process of capital expenditure approval.

Major Responsibilities:

Organizational responsibilities and Safety Culture;
Participate in Accident/Incident Investigations as necessary;
Ensures levels of vessel availability and reliability meets the needs of the business;
Maintaining the company’s standard of environmental protection;
Review and address nonconformity reports which have been generated by a material failure, malfunction or technical error;
Informing the Director of Engineering and V.P. Fleet of all job progress, issues and contingencies;

Maintenance Management roles and responsibilities:

Responsible for the maintenance plan of the fleet via the Vessel Manager, Captains & Chief Engineers;
Ensuring Vessel planned maintenance system is current through implementation of (MCR’s) Maintenance Change Requests for maintenance of the fleet;
Conduct audits of vessels maintenance system to ensure they line up with company policy and procedures;
Maintaining or improving the long term standard condition of the fleet;
Work with Operations to ensure levels of vessel availability and reliability meets the needs of the business;
Maintenance strategy and policy;
Minimize operating costs through life cost management of the fleet;

Fiscal Responsibilities:

Participate in compiling and adhering to the annual CAPEX Budget;
Review requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information and authorize issuance of purchase orders within given approval limits;
Coordinating with the Finance Department to ensure timeliness and accuracy of billing, including the responsibility of ensuring that escalations, extras, credits or other adjustments to base rates are properly allowed;

Project Management:

Assist and support with technical projects, repairs and dry-docks with assistance from the Captains and Chief Engineers;
Assist, support and communicate Plan, Schedule and organize the Scope of Work, as well as alert higher management of any problems and recommendations;
Support Control and report project’s progress and costs;
Support Execution of the projects and finalize a report to management when the project is completed;

Location: Lunenberg;
Travel: 50%
Physical Demands: Ability to do vessel inspections including tanks and scaffolding;
Environment: Office, shipboard and shipyard;
Schedule: As per Fleet requirements;

Qualifications

Requirement to sail with all the vessels to understand the vessel, the equipment , seasons, costs, culture , the conditions and most importantly build relationships and respect of the officers
Project management experience.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience working in a similar operational or technical leadership role
Preferred Marine Officers Certificate of Competency, combined with either a Diploma in Nautical Science, Diploma of Technology in Marine Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in the Fishing and/or Marine industry
Previous experience and success working with Classification Societies and other relevant regulatory bodies
Proven ability to develop and introduce efficient and cost effective means of technical vessel maintenance management
Superior leadership, coaching, mentoring and people management skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to build strong interpersonal relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution and problem solving abilities
Superior organizational, planning and project management skills with the ability to multi-task and respond to shifting priorities
Excellent coping skills and ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
Excellent computer skills with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems

Ability to work flexible hours and travel to remote vessel locations regularly
