Overview:

Main purpose of the job . To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the ships to which he has been assigned.

The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to the following:

Health, Safety & Environment

Make sure to understand the importance of FFS’s workplace culture in regards to OHS and provide the team with the necessary support to foster that culture within their everyday activities.
Continually promote OHS awareness within your team and the corporation as a whole by leading by example and providing instruction, information, training and supervision to ensure the safe performance of all employees involved in the daily operations.
Resolve any OHS issues brought to your attention in a timely manner and notify the HSE team of the issue immediately.
Respond appropriately to any violations of the OHS policy and notify the OHS team of the issue immediately.
Ensure that FFS’s environmental policies are respected in all construction and repair projects.
Ensure the security of facilities and equipment and institute policies that will prevent or minimize loss, theft, vandalism or other damage.

Key tasks & responsibilities

Monitor the office/cell and shipboard technical, safety, environmental & quality issues.
Control and monitor planned maintenance and repairs of assigned vessels.
Support the operational performance of assigned vessels providing assistance to the Chief Engineer as necessary.
Ensure that client relationships are pro-actively developed by continually improving the level of service provided in accordance with the provision of service agreement and industry standard practices.
Act as client interface as required on technical matters; when called upon to do so.
Maintain ISM Certification in conjunction with the shore management team for assigned vessels.
Ensure that onboard work is carried out in compliance with the SMS.
Conduct vessel inspections to confirm compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, Loadline, STCW, ILO Conventions and applicable industry codes and IMCA Guidelines. Verify that any corrective actions are agreed upon and implemented in a timely manner.
Maintain records of defects and ensure corrective action plans are in place and implemented.
Co-ordinate the provision of specialist advice on technical issues to vessels and office staff; when called upon to do so. Evaluate vessel requirements with regard to machinery, paint, chemicals and lube oils.
Assist line management with the functioning of the SMS and monitoring that adequate training is being provided.
Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team during an emergency.
Arrange Third Party inspections when required to do so.
If required, handle/liase with the Master Insurance claims.
Interview and brief senior Officers on SMS matters during office attendance.
Monitor the OPEX budget of the vessel and prepare regular reports.
Authorise the purchase of spares and services ordered by the vessel, ensuring they are in line with operational requirements and budgetary restrictions.
Maintain Chief Engineer’s license, associated certificates and sufficient security clearance to be able to serve as interim Chief Engineer of MV Asterix in the event of a gap in the normally assigned crews.
Any other duties as required by the Marine Operations Director to meet individual office requirements.

Prerequisites
Minimum qualification: Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency.
5 years experience working in a marine related industry in a technical role preferably with tanker or Offshore vessels.
Ability to communicate in English language
Some experience in quality management preferred.
