Overview:

Main purpose of the job . Ensure FFS vessels are manned with qualified, certificated and medically fit seafarers in accordance with IMO STCW Transport Canada, company and client’s requirements. Responsible for oversight and coordination of vessel’s crewing & logistics and for the mobility and placement of vessel crew. Ensure vessel is adequately and competently manned within the prescribed budget. Encourage and promote a one ship, one crew, and one mission philosophy for entire vessel compliment. The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to the following:

Vessel Chief Engineers

Health, Safety & Environment

Make sure to understand the importance of FFS’s workplace culture in regards to OHS and provide the team with the necessary support to foster that culture within their everyday activities.
Continually promote OHS awareness within your team and the corporation as a whole by leading by example and providing instruction, information, training and supervision to ensure the safe performance of all employees involved in the daily operations.
Resolve any OHS issues brought to your attention in a timely manner and notify the HSE team of the issue immediately.
Respond appropriately to any violations of the OHS policy and notify the OHS team of the issue immediately.
Ensure that FFS’s environmental policies are respected in all construction and repair projects.
Ensure the security of facilities and equipment and institute policies that will prevent or minimize loss, theft, vandalism or other damage.

Key tasks & responsibilities

Manage the recruitment of vessel crew.
Effectively carry out pre-engagement briefing of all seafarers in line with operational requirements.
Management of “Vessel Crew’ competency programs.
Coordination of crew rotations on and off FFS marine assets.
Oversight of vessel training and qualification matrix.
Ensure AMOS personnel data base is managed and maintained in accordance with company policy.
Provide professional advice to the HR Department regarding the appointment of vessels crew and all crewing related matters.
Ensure operations manager is advised of all crewing issues.
Establish and maintain direct lines of communication with clients crewing departments in order to develop and establish helpful relationships and teambuilding.
Provide risk assessments and general guidance when new contracts are being developed or negotiated.
Ensure vessel staffing needs are adequately forecasted and then resourced.
Monitor the annual crewing budget and provide reports.
In liaison and collaboration with all stake holders schedule vessel management and shore base manager meetings, provide input into crew seminars.
Ensure regular vessel visits and inspections are completed and documented as per the company’s IMS.
Form part of the Emergency Response Team in the established capacity.
Actively promote and comply with all QHSE policies and procedures.
Assist in communicating QHSE goals throughout the organization

Qualifications, essential skills and experience

Previous seafaring experience and certification desired.
Previous experience working in a crewing department required.
Good organizational and planning skills.
Clear concise communicator, written and verbal.
Able to multi task with the ability to process information accurately.
Proven ability to work with in and to meet tight deadlines.
Results oriented team player.
Consistently demonstrate integrity, acumen and vison.
Able to manage an unpredictable hours of work schedule adjust and adapt as needed.
