Title: Second Engineer, MMTL
Location: Hamilton, Ontario
Reporting to: Maintenance Manager

Responsibilities:
In the position of Second Engineer your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to ensuring the smooth operation and service of marine engines, machinery, auxiliary equipment, as well as recording and reporting on engine performance. The Second Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer and you will follow all standard operating procedures and policies established by McAsphalt Marine Transportation Limited.

Requirements:

Successful applicants will possess suitable experience in the operation and maintenance of ship equipment, familiarity with preventative maintenance programs and past experience as a 2 Engineer using diesel engines. Successful candidates will have a 2nd Class Engineer Motor Ship Certificate, on
unlimited voyages and NC class 1, Limited HT 1 voyages or a 4th Class Engineer Motor Ship Certificate, on NC voyages class 1, Limited HT 2 and Limited IW 1. Required paperwork includes Valid Marine Medical certificate, all MED’s, valid passport, and ability to travel to the United States. It is preferred that applicants to this position possess certifications in ship security responsibilities, confined space awareness and entry, Supervision of an Oil Transfer Operation, WHIMIS etc.

The typical schedule is 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off and 6 hours on, 6 hours off. Our two tug and barge operations dock most often in Detroit, Windsor Sarnia, Oshawa and Montreal while transporting black oil and asphalt. Personal characteristics of an ideal candidate include being able to work independently as well as exhibiting conscientious and trustworthy behavior.
