The ship is the ex CCGS Sir Hubert Humphreys (spelling might be off), now Polar Prince. DC propulsion, 4 Fairbanks Morse engines, you can see some ER pictures on my picture site http://www.seafarermedia.com/index.php?/search/477.

DC/DC propulsion. Sweet systems. Good fuel economy, robust motors and generators and fairly simple controls. I wouldn't mind a trip like that but the icebreakers ruined my knees .
DAs are probably cats.
Interesting story about this ship is in the late 70s early 80's, the CCG put a new bow on the ship that was more efficient for breaking ice and installed a bubbler system. The blueprints were standard measurements and no verification was done. The shipyard built a new bow and the original bow cut off, they discovered the new bow was wider then the body of the ship and had to be scarfed in.
