Job Summary/Basic Function:
BCIT is one of Canada's largest post-secondary institutes, with more than 45,000 students enrolled in certificate, diploma, apprenticeship and degree programs.

The Marine Campus, conveniently located in North Vancouver, is a premier provider of marine training in Canada. Many instructors are marine engineers with worldwide and local experience, utilizing their extensive skills to deliver a wide variety of marine engineering courses.

The campus is currently seeking a full-time Instructor to teach applied engineering sciences, engineering knowledge, and workshop courses. The ideal candidate will be able to bring industry experience into the classroom, develop course and program curriculum, deal with relevant operational and educational issues, and cultivate positive relationships with students.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Classroom instruction to cadets, entry-level, upgrader, PTS or Industry Services students.
Shop and laboratory instruction and supervision.
Instructional counseling, evaluation and preparation.
Administrative responsibilities, including assignments, examination marking, and student evaluation.
Curriculum development, maintenance and program enhancement.
Administrative processes required to ensure appropriate resources are in place to deliver training.
Other duties directly related to the instruction of trades and vocational programs;
Input into development of modifications to workshop and instructional areas.
Preparing and presenting classroom lectures; classroom management; practical demonstrations, and working collectively/collaboratively with the Marine Engineering Chief Instructor.
Maintaining a commitment to the campus quality assurance standards per ISO 9001:2008 or 2015.

Minimum Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid First or Second Class STCW Motor or Combined Certificate of Competency.
Minimum three years seagoing engineer experience/shore based position while in possession of a STCW First or Second Class Motor or Combined Certificate of Competency.
Degree or Diploma in Engineering would be an asset.
Solid communication skills (excellent command of the English language, both written and oral).
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Demonstrated computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
Prior teaching experience an asset.
Completion of an instructional techniques course or Provincial Instructor Diploma (PID) program would be an asset.
