WaterBridge Ferries - Nakusp, BC

WaterBridge Ferries is looking for a talented, self-motivated Marine Manager with demonstrated leadership capabilities to optimize the day-to-day operations of our inland- waters passenger ferry operations. Residing in Nakusp, BC and reporting to the General Manager, the ideal candidate has experience driving results through a diversified workforce with a focus on building strong relationships with all levels within the organization. He/she also thrives in a fast-paced environment, can make good decisions quickly and is comfortable getting their hands dirty. The Marine Manager can work at both a tactical level (solving operational problems real-time, pivoting between projects quickly) while identifying and escalating strategic improvement opportunities for the overall success of the business.

Who we are:

WaterBridge is a privately-owned ship building and ferry operating company based in Nakusp, British Columbia, Canada. The construction team specializes in building vessels in remote sites, under difficult environmental conditions and with limited access to industrial infrastructure.

We are also responsible for the safe ferry passage of people in the communities of Arrow Lakes, Adams Lake and Francois Lake, BC. Our ferry crews are Transport Canada trained and certified. We are a dedicated team working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on customer service and quality workmanship. We pride ourselves on the impact we make to the local economies in which we build and operate .

Key Accountabilities:

Manages an inland -waters, multi-site passenger ferry service.
Provides leadership, coaching and support to approximately 120 employees inclusive of on-board and on-shore staff.
Directs, motivates and develops Assistant Marine Managers for assumption of increased responsibility and succession planning.
Creates and maintains a safety culture.
Oversees operations to ensure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
Forecasts, prepares and implements an annual operational budget, manages effectively within this budget, and reports and responds to internal and external pressures that impact spend and profit.
Interfaces with Federal and Provincial Regulatory agencies.
Works with the Mechanical Manager on proactive vessel maintenance programs.
Delivers timely employee performance feedback through observation and skill assessment.
Through the Assistant Marine Managers ensures crews are motivated and engaged for maximum performance.
Participates in additional company projects as required.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

Must be a strong leader with high influence to manage teams in a positive and productive manner in a unionized environment.
Experience as the leader of a business unit with direct responsibility for operations with at least 7 years in the role.
Post-secondary education is required with a Business degree preferred.
Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Proven external and internal customer service skills.
Project management skills preferred with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Professional written and oral communication skills a must.
Marine experience preferred but not mandatory.
The successful candidate must live or be willing to relocate, to the Nakusp, BC community.
