SUPERVISES: Second Assistant Marine Engineer

SALARY RANGE : TBA

LOCATION : Offshore Newfoundland

ROTATION : 21/21

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

JOB SUMMARY: Supervises the maintenance and repair of mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment onboard the vessel. Exercise effective control and efficient operation of the technical and mechanical aspects of the rig with due regard to personnel safety, the rig, and protection of the environment

PREREQUISITES/QUALIFICATIONS :

Canadian First Class Engineer (Unlimited) License, or STCW equivalent
Canadian Maintenance Supervisor License, or STCW equivalent
High school diploma or equivalent
Work experience and demonstrated ability of oral and written communications may be substituted in lieu of formal education
Experience with Kongsberg K-Pos/SDP and K-Chief/SVC systems
2+ years previous experience in a role with 6th generation semi submersible drilling rig
Experience from POSMOOR ATA operations on Semis
STCW Security Training for Seafarers with Security Duties
Experience with MH Drilling equipment with newer control systems
Experience with DAT system
Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation of the drilling unit
Advanced computer skills
Experience with Microsoft Project

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate and ensure that all mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment maintenance and repair is done in a safe and prudent manner
Ensure compliance to Company policies, local and international regulations relating to the operation of the rig, and current pollution regulations
Monitor the power plants controls and power distribution; ensure that power is available at all times
Ensure that the permit to work system is in place and followed
Participate in the effective management of the Rig Maintenance System (RMS) and ensure all records are maintained on a timely basis
Operate, maintain and repair as necessary the engine cooling water system, lube oil system, and fuel system
Supervise the maintenance and repair of all pumps and valves of the ballast system, thrusters, associated driven pumps and auxiliary equipment
Liaise with the marine department regarding the loading, ordering an use of fuel, potable water, and drill water in consideration of the rig’s stability
Plan equipment periodic maintenance according to the OPMS guidelines and coordinate that maintenance with Maintenance Supervisor and other department heads
Ensure that reports for repair and maintenance of equipment are accurate and completed
Carry out classification society surveys as part of continuous survey of machinery
Assist the Chief Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor to ensure all third-party equipment is fit for purpose, certified, correctly installed, and maintained while on the rig
Maintain an adequate supply of spares to fulfill maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation
Inform the Maintenance Supervisor and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig
Implement outstanding recommendations from audits, as issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities or rig management
Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in supplying information for maintenance and repair budget
Communicate equipment problems or breakdown information via direct supervisor to Field Support Group
Incorporate the THINK process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team
Participate in the START process
Ensure that subordinate personnel are properly trained to perform START process
Ensure DROPS inspections are conducted according to the rig’s DROPS inspection program
Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in the expected results is observed
Demonstrate commitment to the Company’s safety policies through the consistent execution of leadership and guidance
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirement for environmental protection
Actively participate in weekly safety meetings and pre-job meetings as required
Report an y incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to the Maintenance Supervisor and other department heads
Ensure a high standard of hygiene and housekeeping is maintained onboard the rig
Meet the training requirements as per the applicable training matrix
Participate fully in the annual performance appraisal process
Mentor, develop and train new crew members to ensure they are competent to work at their next job level
Ensure that all subordinates have the necessary skills and experience to fulfill their assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner
Recommend promotion or disciplinary action up to and including discharge
Supervise and guide crew members on their On the Job Training (OJT) program
Maintain discipline onboard and ensure compliance with Company disciplinary procedures
