$4,500 - $10,000 a month - Full-time, Contract

An eligible candidate will be legally able to work in Canada,

i.e Canadian Citizen / Canadian Work Visa

The M/V Pacific Yellowfin is currently looking for an Assistant Engineer to train under our Chief Engineer starting for the 2018 charter season of May to October. The yacht is currently in Vancouver, Canada. Through the summer, We travel up the Central Coast of BC, working through ports from Quadra Island to Kitimat.

THE JOB

The right candidate will be responsible for the everyday smooth operation of the boat’s engines, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems and its tenders. department, which means being adept in the arts of housekeeping services, laundry procedures and wardrobe management, food and beverage service and cleanup, and entertaining (while maintaining proper etiquette and a high-energy, can-do attitude at all times)

TYPICAL DAY

The right candidate will be responsible for the everyday smooth operation of the boat’s external and deck department, which means being adept in all aspects of the ship's systems once trained
Working under the supervision of the Chief Engineer and Captain
Safely and efficiently operating the entire engineering plant
Maintaining mechanical systems routinely
Maintaining electric systems routinely
Maintaining air compressors routinely
Maintaining main engine lube oil systems
Performing all electrical work aboard the ship
Working independently
Testing and recording of insulation resistance (megger testing)
Lifting and Lowering Anchor
Rolling over and shutting down engines
Collecting monthly samples of lube oil from all machinery
Checking all pumps and machinery during rounds
Monitoring activities from the engine control room

Team support is very important and all members of the crew are required to assist each other when required

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience as a ships engineer or the aptitude to be trained, but for top-end superyachts, there are no specific qualifications, a background in marine mechanics or ship life is an advantage. (i.e fishing, operating small boats, handling lines, docking, plumbing systems etc. )
Ability to read and write English as well as render, understand and react to commands given in English.
experience as an engineer in a similar fashion.
Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

Willing and able to:
Be away from home for periods in excess of two months
Push/pull up to 50+ pounds
Lift/carry up to 50+ pounds floor to shoulder
Lift up to 50 pounds floor to overhead
Climb stairs/ladders
