The Project Engineer will support the Engineering Managers with the management of Vancouver Shipyards and major subcontractors from an engineering and delivery perspective. The Project Engineer is the conduit from Engineering into the Program Management Office. The role possesses/provides a holistic project view to support the Design Team from a schedule perspective to be completely integrated into the project as a whole.
Develops,updates and monitors metrics to assess delivery against the Project Schedule and provide visibility to the Engineering Team.
Tracks open issues and ensures timely resolution.
Monitors the major subcontractor performance to cost and schedule, and provides variance analysis and corrective action plans.
Monitors design documents provided in order to ensure contract compliance and achieve customer, classification society and regulatory body approval.
Supports cross functional teams when necessary to determine the most optimum approach to vessel design.
Supports the development and maintenance of interface control documentation.
Provides engineering and design support in assigned areas to ensure the vessel is designed to meet requirements in the most efficient and cost effective manner.
Provide reports and feedback to the Director of Engineering to allow re-allocation of resources or develop alternative approaches to resolve issues.
Identify root cause, develop corrective action plans and remove issues holding up progress across the Engineering function.
Education and Experience
Bachelors' Degree in Engineering is required, with preference for Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
Professional engineering designation an asset
Minimum 5 years post-secondary experience working in a heavy-industry environment is required.
Minimum 5 years, up to 10 years years post-secondary experience in vessel design in a new ship construction/ production environment is preferred.
Marine environment experience is preferred: Shipyard experience an asset.
Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is required..
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
Technical knowledge and engineering skills and understanding of Classification Society and Regulatory Body rules and requirements.
Demonstrated ability to work independently to support solutions to complex technical problems.
Above average analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
Strong communication skills including verbal and listening.
Working knowledge of ShipConstructor and ACAD software, document control systems and databases
Good organizational skills
Availability and willingness to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
Exercise sound judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
PC proficiency required. Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
