The company is headquartered in Ireland, and has tidal development projects in Ireland as well as internationally – UK, France, Canada and Asia.

Background

OpenHydro are looking for a suitable candidate to become a Barge Technical Master responsible for the safe operation, routine maintenance, repairs and certification of barge hull, sub-sea equipment and turbine installation systems, on any of the present or future marine assets of the company.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, statutory certification and operation of the barge including inspections and docking.
Ensures that barge is maintained to the highest standard and that it is operationally ready when required.
Responds to any defects or observations that may have an impact on safety or company business and actions all corrective actions.
Ensures that the barge meets all criteria for safety and environmental issues adhering to the current international and Flag State legislations.
Ensures that all company safety systems are upheld and organises Permit to Work, Risk Assessments and Tool Box Talks accordingly.
Effectively manages the barge technical crew.
Conducts tool box talks/risk assessments with barge technical crew before any work is performed and ensures that all possible mitigations against risk are in place on a daily basis.
Updates all log books, oil/waste records etc as per Flag state requirements.
Ensures that adequate spares/fuel/lubes for all barge equipment are available and in good working condition.
Ensures that barge maintenance records are maintained and available.

Communicates effectively and liaises with Management on all technical/budgetary/operational issues.

Ensures that barge drawings, schematics and procedures are kept up to date.
Provides daily reports to management on barge status.

Essential Skills

Qualified engineer with proven experience in vessel/asset management is essential.
Knowledge and experience of management and safety in the workplace including permit to work, isolation methods and risk assessments.
Experience of marine systems, plant and lifting equipment
Knowledge of marine class/flag/lifting equipment rules and regulations.
Good communication skills.
Good reporting skills.
Good IT skills
Ability to work in a team environment.

Desirable Skills & Experience

High level of relationship management skills
Knowledge of working within a multi-site operational business both nationally and internationally
Addressing and reporting technical issues to meet client’s specification of performance whilst ensuring that projects meet agreed program
Qualification in Automation / Control systems.

Travelling

Candidates must be available to regularly travel any of the geographies where the company has projects ongoing, for periods of time that may extend one month.
