Job description
The Technical Superintendent, as a senior designer, is responsible for creating detailed vessel design and construction drawings for Victoria Shipyards The drawings include 3D modeling, conceptual design, structural layouts, weight estimates and construction drawings that each department must follow during ship repair, refit and construction. The Technical Superintendent reports to the Director, Repair & Conversion Engineering and has no direct reports, however, will provide guidance and experience to more junior designers within the department.

Duties/Accountabilities

Receives, logs and reviews technical drawings received for new construction projects
Through 3D Modeling, prepares the overall, detailed conceptual design of construction projects using AutoCAD and other related software. This includes drawings for the vessel structure and layout.
Creates detailed work plans and drawings for each department to follow during construction i.e.: outfitting, electrical and hull, etc.
Produces weight estimates of vessels prior to construction including tonnage, stability, centres and power.
Assists in construction planning and scheduling.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture
A minimum of 8 years technical experience in ship design and construction
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Skills, Knowledge and Require Competencies

Demonstration of exemplify business ethics, integrity and honesty in all situations
Knowledge of relevant WMG policies and procedures
Excellent technical and problem solving skills
Excellent command of the English language, verbal and written
Proficiency in AutoCAD
Detail orientated
