Assistant Fleet Superintendent

Reporting to the Marine Superintendent, the Assistant Fleet Superintendent plays an integral role in the support of vessel operations through ongoing monitoring of ship activities, report generation and analysis, records administration, and contribution to efficient ship management systems.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Support the Marine Superintendent in his responsibilities for vessel technical operations including monitoring, records, project planning and systems management;
• Assist in overseeing technical issues, maintenance and safety of the vessels, fleet compliance with respect to all required standards, analysis of vessel operations;
• Perform duties in preparation for dry-dock and other jobs in the areas of ship operations and maintenance;
• Carry out technical ship management functions using computerized system (AMOS);
• Support budget development process and ongoing cost control;
• Assist in preparation and updating of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports; dry-dock files; and other technical reports; maintain records relating to the fleet;
• Receive ship reports; file and distribute to relevant persons; maintain record of receipt of required reports;
• Review invoices for accuracy and confirm validity of same to Marine Superintendent for repairs, surveys, radio traffic, slops/sludge disposals and lube oils;
• Maintain accurate and current record of vessel certificates, survey status and documentation; take necessary action to obtain renewals, extensions and update computerized ship management system accordingly;
• Communicate with vendors and classification society representatives as required;
• Attend fleet vessels as required;
• Act as back-up for Marine Superintendent and Purchaser as required;
• Travel occasionally;
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Qualifications

• Canadian Marine Engineer certificate (First Class considered as an asset);
• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience;
• In-depth understanding of technical ship operations;
• Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and computerized ship management systems. Proficiency in AMOS would be an asset;
• Bilingualism would be an asset;
• Valid Driving License.

• Cooperative working style and strong interpersonal skills;
• High degree of accuracy in reporting and document creation;
• Technical skills; understanding of industry technology in relation to vessel needs.
