Northern Crewing Agency Inc. (NCA) is a ship crewing company in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. We recruit, research and supply personnel to the marine industry. Our goal is to be recognized as one of the leading regional suppliers of the highest quality crew support services.

NCA provides knowledgeable, properly trained and certified crew members who are experienced in the management and operation of research, survey, fishing and offshore support vessels, and who are dedicated to their safe operation. NCA maintains a detailed database of qualified crew.

NCA is soliciting applications from potential crew members for the position of 3rd CLASS ENGINEER. The position will run from end of June 2018 to mid-November 2018, when the vessel is operating offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.

Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the administration, supervision and economical and safe operation of the engine department.
Responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment, including cargo handling machinery, valves, piping, deck machinery, refrigeration machinery, galley and other equipment as fitted.
Actively participates in the ship’s safety management plans advancing the safety culture of the ship and ensuring safety risks are mitigated or removed.
Perform troubleshooting, problem solving as well as preventative and corrective maintenance to prevent down time and to ensure the efficient and continual functioning of the vessel.
Shall keep themselves fully informed at all times, of the activities of their department and shall personally supervise any work they consider to be of hazardous nature and shall see that all safety regulations are in effect.
Shall keep themselves fully informed of and comply with government rules and regulations, classification society rules, air and sea pollution regulations, and IMO recommendations.
Shall make inspections of all machinery spaces, stores, machinery shop.
Shall inform the Chief Engineer and Technical Superintendent of any machinery damage involving seaworthiness of the ship.
Shall keep themselves up to date at all times of the bunkers, lubricating oils and water quantities.
Be prepared to assist Class Surveyors at all times.
Any other related duties.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates must have the following valid certificates and documents:

3rd Class Engineer, Motor Ship Ticket
MED STCW Basic Safety
MED STCW Survival Craft other than Fast Rescue Craft
MED STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
Seaman’s discharge book
Marine Basic First Aid
Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties
Valid Transport Canada Approved Seafarers Medical
Canadian Passport
